Having never served in the armed forces myself, I pay a bit more attention to those who have. This weekend I took my kids out to the Mississippi Vietnam War Memorial. I think it is important to teach our children early what sacrifices are made by soldiers and their families. The Mississippi Vietnam War Memorial is located in Ocean Springs. It is a great tribute to the soldiers who have paid the ultimate price for serving our nation.
Although my children are very young, they were moved by the pictures of fallen soldiers. It is hard to explain to a six year old what war is and why we fight them. "They are American Heros" was the best way I could explain to my kids the service that these men provided our country. Although I felt it was a somber moment my children ran through the park. I started to scold them, but then I realized that their happiness and freedom is exactly what these soldiers fought for. I decided to let them run a little more as I looked at the names and faces of a war that ended before I was born. I figured these Heros would have wanted to watch children running and playing on this Memorial Day weekend.
"I am fighting to protect and maintain what I believe in and I want to live in a democratic society. If I am killed while carrying out this mission, I want no one to cry or mourn for me. I want people to hold their heads up high and be proud of me for the job I did."

I think as we remember those that have fallen in service of our country, we thank god for this wonderful country and our freedom's that Armed Service men and women have provided. We have a great and noble country. Thank You to our Military and their friends and family this Memorial Day and may God Bless America.
